DISCOVERING BUDDHISM: Parts 1, 2 & 3 (US, 2007, 90 min.) www.fpmt.org/education/dbdescription.asp 7/29 Tuesday 8:15pm
DISCOVERING BUDDHISM is an engaging introduction to the tenets of Mahayana Buddhism, led by eminent Tibetan lamas and experienced Western teachers. The series features His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Ribur Rinpoche, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, and other Tibetan Lamas. Western teachers in the Discovering Buddhism video series include, Ven. Robina Courtin, Ven. Sangye Khadro, Ven. Thubten Chodron, and others. Over 2500 years ago, Shakyamuni Buddha gained direct insight into the nature of reality, perfected the qualities of wisdom, compassion, and power, and revealed the path to his disciples. In the 11th Century, Atisha brought these teachings to Tibet in the form of the lam-rim – the stages on the path to enlightenment. The lam-rim tradition found its pinnacle in the teachings of the great Tibetan saint Lama Tsongkhapa in the 14th Century, and these teachings continued to pass from teacher to student up to this present day. When Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche transmitted these teachings to their disciples, they imparted a deeply experiential tradition of study and practice, leading thousands of seekers to discover the truth of what the Buddha taught. This tradition is the core of DISCOVERING BUDDHISM. Part 1: Mind and Its Potential

7/25 Friday 6:30pm 7/27 Sunday 2:30pm
ANTHONY: WARRIOR OF GOD follows the life of Anthony of Padua (1191?-1231) from his arrival on Sicily's shores via shipwreck in 1221 to his death. Anthony is a Portuguese monk who, once in Italy, seeks out St. Francis. Anthony’s gift as a great preacher is soon discovered by happenstance. He spends much of his life in and near Padua, a city run by usurers. Anthony offers protection and friendship to Folco, at one time a petty criminal and acolyte for the usurers, later falsely accused of murder. Anthony's strength of character and his teachings lead to changes in the character of Padua and the end of usury. Anthony became Padua’s patron Saint soon after his death. Vivien Weisman’s explosive documentary exposes a reign of violence and terror within Miami’s Cuban exile community. The filmmaker describes THE MAN OF TWO HAVANAS thusly: “My dad, on the other hand, does care. He cares a great deal. Back in Havana he was a revolutionary and fought alongside Castro for the freedom of the Cuban people. Then he had a falling out with his old friend and it was Miami, here we come. But his animosity towards Castro did not last and he soon wanted dialogue with the Cuban government. Perhaps, to live in peace. That’s when the shit hit the fan. Bombings, death threats and drive by shootings were a daily occurrence in our home.” Classic Country from the Grand Ole Opry!
